Welcome to The Straight-Up

I’ve been a self-proclaimed Christian my whole life, but only in the last few years have I really begun to understand what that means. The struggle is real. And the sacrifice is big, but not nearly close to what Jesus sacrificed on the cross for my sins. So as my reasonable service, I try to live my life according to His commands, as He said, “If you love Me, you’ll obey My commands.” As I learn through this journey of faith, I write down what lessons He’s taught me in His grace so others can benefit as well. That’s where the Straight-Up comes in.

A little background:

I had a dream in 2019 that led me to start this blog. I love to share what I’m learning through the Bible and through life in general, so this was a great way to do that by way of writing. This blog is about seeking God while He can be found, surrendering every bit of self, and learning how grace changes everything. As Christians, we are called to obedience to Christ. This blog will always point to that aim. I’ve always loved to write, so this will serve as a sort of journal of things I’ve learned and experienced through God’s great faithfulness.

“Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”

Psalm 25:5

When I’m not blogging, I enjoy writing devotionals, random-topic pieces for contests, and children’s books of which I have 2 so far, unpublished. Many of my devotionals have been published through the Faithwriters Association website and can be found on several websites Faithwriters partners with. I don’t write often for contests, but I enjoy it, and have even won a few!

My most recent major accomplishment in writing was finishing my novel, The Question, of which I am currently sending queries out to various agents in hopes of landing a publishing contract. This is a very exciting, though tedious process, but I’m trusting God to put my book in the right hands, from agent to publisher to reader.

As of 2020, my writing is focused on exhortation and encouragement for the body of Christ; you could say it is my ministry. My secondary, though very much a priority, is advocating for the freedoms given by God and protected by our Constitution here in the United States of America. I do research and write letters to officials to try to push for action and accountability in our local, state, and national governments.

Because of my general busyness from life and kids and advocacy, I might not post on my blog every day, but I will try to be consistent in posting once a week when time permits. Thanks for joining me in my journey toward growth, truth and transparency. Throughout this blog, you’ll find articles which educate, encourage and entertain with truthful expression of learning, life and love. Here you will find articles on the hilarity of parenting, the excellence of God’s Word, and the challenges and joys of Christian living. I hope you enjoy it and grow in faith and love of our Lord Jesus right along with me.
